What to Expect
Your first appointment is a comprehensive menopause consultation with Dr Emily Muirhead, who leads our Private HRT Clinic.
During the consultation, we will listen to your symptoms, review your medical history and discuss your goals and preferences. We will talk through suitable evidence-based options, including HRT where appropriate, and explain the benefits, risks and alternatives.
By the end of the appointment, you will have a personalised care plan and a clear understanding of the next steps.
Follow-up appointments can be arranged to review your progress, discuss any side effects or concerns, and adjust your care plan if needed. We will advise on appropriate follow-up as part of your personalised care plan.
Blood tests are not always needed before starting or adjusting HRT. If blood tests are recommended, we will explain which tests are needed and why.
Common symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, low mood, fatigue, poor sleep and brain fog may indicate hormonal changes associated with perimenopause or menopause.
Your appointment includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history and treatment options to create a personalised plan tailored to your needs.
HRT is safe and effective for many women when prescribed appropriately. Risks and benefits will always be discussed fully during your consultation.
We kindly request at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or appointment changes. Late cancellations may be subject to a cancellation fee.
An initial menopause consultation lasts up to 45 minutes and is an opportunity to discuss your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and any concerns you may have about perimenopause or menopause. The clinician will assess how symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, or irregular periods are affecting you and may discuss any relevant health risks or previous treatments.
Following the assessment, a personalised management plan will be developed, which may include lifestyle advice, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-hormonal treatment options, or further investigations if required. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the benefits and risks of any recommended treatments.
A follow-up menopause consultation lasts up to 25 minutes and is designed to review your progress since your initial appointment. The clinician will discuss any changes in your symptoms, assess how well your current treatment plan is working, and address any side effects, concerns, or questions you may have.
Based on your response to treatment, recommendations may be adjusted, including changes to HRT, non-hormonal therapies, or lifestyle measures. The aim is to ensure your treatment remains safe, effective, and tailored to your individual needs.
A repeat private prescription service allows eligible patients to request a continuation of medication between scheduled appointments, subject to clinical review. The clinician will assess your request, review your medical records and current treatment, and confirm that it is appropriate and safe to issue a further prescription.
If approved, a private prescription will be issued and sent according to the clinic's usual process. If there have been significant changes to your health, symptoms, or medication needs, you may be advised to arrange a follow-up consultation before a prescription can be provided.
An additional email/admin advice service provides support for non-urgent questions or guidance between menopause appointments. This may include clarification about your treatment plan, medication queries, prescription-related advice, or administrative assistance that does not require a full consultation.
Your enquiry will be reviewed by the appropriate clinician or member of the team, and a response will be provided based on the information available. If your query requires a more detailed clinical assessment, you may be advised to book a follow-up appointment.
If a private prescription is issued as part of your consultation, the prescription issue fee is included in the consultation price. Repeat prescriptions between appointments are charged at £30 and are only issued where clinically appropriate. The cost of any medication is paid separately to the pharmacy.
Blood tests are charged separately and are not included in the consultation fee.
If blood tests are recommended, the cost will be confirmed before any tests are arranged.
Payment is required in advance of your appointment. Appointments can be changed or cancelled without charge if at least 72 hours’ notice is given. Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice may still be charged.
